Portugal: 60 Additional Days for Jobs Seekers

60 additional days for job seekers

Portugal announces 60 additional days for job seekers.

Portugal is one of the most tourist-friendly countries in Europe. Before the pandemic, cities like Lisbon were among the favorite destinations for digital nomads. Now, legislation is encouraging more people to stay longer in the country.

The new visa addition allows friends to stay in the country for 120 days while looking for a job. And now, they can ask for additional 60 days extending the available time. The Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) and the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) officially confirmed the measure. Furthermore, more applicants will be able to benefit from the legislation. According to SchengenVisaInfo.com, the measure will attract regulated migration, promoting healthier tourism.

The new law also responds to the pandemic hit. Besides students and digital nomads, tourists highly decreased during restrictions time. For example, Conseran Company counts over 130 necessary jobs unfilled, and most of the employees are foreigners. As owner Jose Freitas said: “Conseran – Conservas do Atlântico Norte is investing around €15 million in the construction of a new factory for the processing of tuna, but also of other species such as mackerel and squid, but it is experiencing difficulties in ensuring the labour needed to work at cruising speed.”

So, these 60 additional days for job seekers can support the national economy after the pandemic.
