The Indonesian government introduced the E33G Remote Worker Visa initiative on April 1, 2024.
This visa allows foreign nationals to live in Indonesia while working remotely for their overseas employer.
The visa lasts for up to one year, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year.
So, what are the basic requirements for applicants?
- A valid passport for at least six months
- A bank statement with a balance of at least US$2,000 (or equivalent) in the three months leading up to the filing of the application
- Having a minimum annual income of at least US$60,000 (or equivalent).
Eligible foreign nationals must also present a recent photograph and an employment contract with the company located outside Indonesia.
It is recommended that, when applying, people have a passport that is valid for at least 18 months.
This is to satisfy the passport validity requirement for a one-year limited stay permit, which is 12 months.
The government is undertaking measures to create more accessible visa application options for eligible foreigners.
The new visa is designed to attract more highly specialized workers. Plus, it is a welcome change for those who wish to work remotely in Indonesia.
Remote worker visa holders are not allowed to carry out any income-generating activities locally or work for or with any Indonesian companies.
