A survey conducted by the Galway team found that 95% of people believe remote work makes life easier. The survey took place between April and early May and had responses from more than 8,000 people.
For most employees, remote work enables them to better organize their work and life. And while companies worldwide have embraced flexibility to some extent, others are still going strong on the idea that office work is better.
Galway Third Annual Survey Results
Heather Humphreys, Minister for Rural and Community Affairs of Ireland, highlighted that accommodating remote work helps companies to attract and retain talent. Especially with the current shortages in the labor market. She mentioned that:
“These survey results will build on that work, providing up-to-date information on remote working experience of employees.”
The survey also revealed that 8% of workers have returned to the office full-time. More than half are working in a hybrid model, and 40% are fully working from home. Additionally, 49% of the people surveyed said they work more hours when working from home, while only 6% said they worked less.
The top 5 activities that people spend their extra time on while working from home are:
- Household duties (cleaning, shopping, etc.)
- Exercise
- Working on their main job
- Relaxation
- Other responsibilities
People also believe that remote work doesn’t affect their career future. 49% say they think it has no impact on promotion opportunities, 33% did not know if it impacts or not, and 9% felt it has either a positive or negative impact on promotion opportunities.
