As Attendance Rises, Deloitte Purchases New Office Space

After getting rid of office space in 2021, accounting giant Deloitte is purchasing new buildings in London.

Since the pandemic, Deloitte has encouraged remote work. However, rising office attendance has led to substantial land purchases.

They made a big investment of new office space in London, reportedly purchasing a 70,000 square feet expansion.

This consists of several floors in an office building near its New Street Square headquarters.

This decision to purchase new office space by the firm is very different from their previous strategy.

Between 2020 and 2022, the Big Four accounting firm closed a lot of offices, encouraging employees to work from home forever.

In 2022, Deloitte left offices in New Square, which are quite near to where the new offices will be set up.

This decision was scary to some employees, who tought the company was preparing to announce a return-to-office mandate.

Even if they are adding office space, the company claims the goal is not to force employees back in the office.

Deloitte has made the office an attractive option for employees to return to. A report by the company said:

“As leaders create policies around returning to the office, they should consider the work that needs to be done as well as worker preferences. Before organizations can consider where the work should be done, they must first understand what that work requires. Only then can they design the most suitable workplace model.”
