Microsoft announced that its offices would fully reopen in Washington state and California´s Bay Area on February 28th. After two years of working remotely, the company decided that it was time to bring employees back to the office.
The technology giant has over 103,000 employees in the U.S. A few months ago, they announced a hybrid workplace model that enables employees to choose the style of work that best suits their needs. And while flexibility will still be encouraged, Microsoft is looking forward to opening its offices again.
Microsoft´s Hybrid Workplace
Chris Capossela, Vice President and Chief Marketing Office in Microsoft, announced the new arrangements through the company´s blog. Employees would have 30 days starting February 28th to adjust their routines and adopt the working preferences they agreed with their managers.
In the blog post, Capossela also highlighted the high vaccination rates in the Seattle area, home to the companies headquarters. This was also one of the influencing factors for office reopening and the falling hospitalization cases in Washington.
However, even as offices are fully reopening, the company still acknowledges flexible work arrangements:
Our approach to hybrid embraces schedule flexibility as standard for most roles and provides employees with the opportunity to determine how and where they work best, while making sure an individual’s plans align to the team agreements set with their manager. We’ve committed to empowering our managers with tools and resources to provide employees with the level of care they need during this transition, which includes the ability to approve requests to adjust their work site, location or hours.
