According to a research on the uptake of the home office format 2020, remote work in Brazil was not possible for most people.

- 74 million people were employed in Brazil in 2020.
- Only 8.2 million (11%) worked remotely in Brazil.
There were major differences between the country’s 27 states and the Federal District, where capital Brasília is located.
- 23.6% of the employees in the Federal District of Brazilians in formal employment worked remotely.
- Only 3.5% of the employees in the state of Pará worked remotely.
- Rio de Janeiro had 18.7% remote workers.
- São Paulo had 16% of employees working from home.
- Paraíba was at 12.2% and Ceará at 10% in terms of employees that worked remotely in 2020.
- Women represented more than half of remote workers.
- There was a higher percentage of self-declared white women with higher education who adopted remote work in Brazil across all Brazilian states.

According to a separate study, remote working is not feasible for lower middle class Brazilians. According to the research, only 17.5% of Brazilians from lesser privileged backgrounds were able to work from home through the pandemic.
