Walmart is forcing remote workers to relocate to Arkansas HQ by implementing their new in-person work policy.
In May, Walmart mandated that hundreds of remote workers relocate to its corporate headquarters.
These include Bentonville, Arkansas, Hoboken, New Jersey, and Northern California.
A recent Bloomberg report revealed that employees opposed the return-to-office mandate. Several resigned during a company-wide Zoom call.
In said Zoom call, workers expressed concerns about the challenges of living in Arkansas.
The main concerns were childcare arrangements, increased workload, and the potential impact on their partners’ careers due to the relocation.
Walmart set strict conditions with short notice. Employees unable to relocate must terminate their employment with the company between August 2024 and January 2025.
Their Chief People Officer, Donna Morris, informed that most employees have opted to return to the office.
Employees were required to notify Walmart by July 1st of their intention to relocate, with the move scheduled to be completed by October 31st.
The company is offering relocation assistance ranging from $15,000 to $30,000.
Additionally, they offered a sum to offset the tax implications since the IRS considers such payments as income.
