The Happy Works co-working space for 90 minutes provides essential working pods at minimal rates for remote workers, freelancers, and working mums.
The West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) launches three Happy Works locations last August. The co-working space for 90 minutes provides affordable work spots for Rs 30. And any additional hour is Rs 20. Finally, for monthly guests, there is also a monthly subscription.
Spread in three locations in New Town, Happy Works targets freelancers, remote workers, and working mothers. The yellow working pods are an 800-plus sq ft area, providing around 20 working desks. The co-working has numbered seats and designated bookshelves.
The space includes air-conditioning with free high-speed Wi-Fi even on the rooftop. The first co-working space for 90 minutes was inaugurated by state minister Firhad Hakim and Chairman and Managing Director of HIDCO, Debasis Sen, last August. As he states: “These pods are gaining popularity with each passing day. First, because they are very affordable—just Rs 20 an hour. Second, they are very conveniently located. The idea behind charging some money for these pods was just to recover the wifi and electricity expenses, not to gain profit.”
These flexible working solutions are growing worldwide. Especially for working mothers and freelancers, affordable and flexible workplaces are an ideal opportunity to keep building a career working remotely.
