The 2022 Global Peace Index released the list of the safest countries for digital nomads.
After the pandemic, digital nomad visas became very popular among location-independent entrepreneurs and remote workers. As fully remote arrangements become possible, most people decided to move abroad to save money and discover new places.
As a result, numerous lists to find the best destinations for digital nomads came out. Now, Lemon.io analyses data from Economist Intelligence Unit to determine the safest countries offering working visas.
The study ranked 163 countries according to the following categories:
- Level of societal safety and security
- Extent of ongoing domestic and international conflict
- Degree of militarization
As a result, here are the 10 safest countries for digital nomads:
- Iceland
- New Zealand
- Portugal
- Czech Republic
- Hungary
- Croatia
- Germany
- Norway
- Australia
- Mauritius
While Iceland is the safest one offering a long-term visa, New Zealand is the most peaceful country in Asia-Pacific. For example, the island records a decrease in incarceration rate, military expenditure, and terrorism impact (Global Peace Index).
Flexibility isn’t the only priority after the pandemic. Especially for those who travel, safety and health are also essential factors to value before moving abroad. So, this list of the safest countries for digital nomads is another example of this growing tendency.
