Dell joins the growing list of companies putting an end to remote work policies and demanding that workers go back to the office.
On Friday, the IT giant´s CEO, Michael Dell, sent an email to employees stating that the company was “retiring hybrid policy.”
The company called all employees who live within an hour of a Dell office back to their desks five days a week.
Remote workers further away will be allowed to continue their long-distance employment relationship.
Plus, team leaders at Dell will also reportedly be able to ask for exemptions to the policy for team members.
“Starting March 3, all hybrid and remote team members who live near a Dell office will work in the office five days a week,” the memo said. “We are retiring hybrid policy effective that day.”
To justified the policy change, Dell said a thirty-second in-person conversation can replace an email discussion that goes on for hours or days.
Additionally, they noted that specific groups within the company, like sales, manufacturing, and engineering, have already moved back to the office.
“What we’re finding is that for all the technology in the world, nothing is faster than the speed of human interaction,” Dell said.
Finally, according to Business Insider, “future roles will be hired at a specific Dell office and will no longer be offered as remote.”
