PSAC Is Launching A $1-million Remote Work Campaign

On September 9, Canada government workers under the purview of the Treasury Board should return to the office.

They are expected to be back in the office at least three days a week, four for managers.

Several federal unions have countered that decision since it was made in May, holding rallies and filing complaints.

Now, the largest federal public service union is preparing to launch a $1-million telework campaign.

The union aims to use the national campaign to fight for telework in court and during contract negotiations, which are expected to begin again in spring 2025.

PSAC national president, Sharon DeSousa, said: “Together, we’ll be pressuring the government in the streets, on Parliament Hill, on TV, over the radio and in newspapers and social media feeds across the country.”

Members voted to commit $1 million from the union’s unallocated surplus to “defend the right to telework.”

The unions have said the government’s decision has been made without consultation.

PSAC will mobilize to “force the federal government to honour their commitment, rescind their three-day in office mandate, and respect negotiated telework agreements.”

Workers are outraged. The Treasury Board confirmed it did not complete any studies on productivity before asking people to RTO.

On top of a national campaign, the unions said during the townhall that rallies would continue throughout September.
