According to a study conducted by momondo, Portugal ranks first among the best nations for travelling and working remotely.

The search engine’s Work While Traveling Index places Portugal ahead of Spain, Romania, Japan, the Czech Republic, and Germany, as more individuals adopt flexible work settings and combine leisure with remote work.

Momondo assessed 111 nations based on 22 characteristics in six categories: travel costs and accessibility, local pricing, health and safety, remote working circumstances, social life, and climate.

Portugal was named the best country in the world for remote work, with high marks in every category, including climate, social life, low crime rate, and a relatively low cost of living.

In addition to “many inhabitants having a high level of English, which is a strong point for expatriates,” momondo points out that Portugal provides a visa for digital nomads.

Spain placed in second, owing to a high number of cafés and restaurants per capita, as well as fast internet, a large number of coworking spaces, and remote visas for freelancers. It also boasts a vibrant nightlife and welcomes members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Romania is ranked third, owing to its low long-term rental prices and delicious local cuisine.
