Meta Creates a Tech Hub in Toronto

In a statement released yesterday, the new Toronto hub will introduce Canada´s first WhatsApp, Messenger, and Remote Presence engineering teams while growing the existing AI research teams.

The main goal of this 2,500 tech hub is to continue with the development of the Metaverse, which is a set of virtual environments in which users can work, play, and socialize with one another.

According to Garrick Tiplady, the VP of the global business group and country director at Meta in Canada:

“Canada has always been important to Meta. We’ve helped millions of Canadians and businesses connect, create, and grow, and we’re looking forward to continuing to support the Canadian economy and innovation ecosystem with these investments.”

The company states that most of the upcoming positions in Toronto’s new hub are engineering-focused. Additionally, these positions are both for remote and on-site employees.

“You don’t have to live in downtown Toronto to work on building the metaverse” Rachel Curren, Public Policy Manager in Canada.

Many of the jobs offered can be done remotely and from home. This means that people working outside Toronto will also see their opportunities grow.
