Kenya has launched its Digital Nomad Work Permit, giving foreigners the opportunity to work remotely from the country.
The President of Kenya, William Ruto, said the country could be a home for digital professionals and their families.
This move is Kenya’s strategy to boost tourism, foreign investment and employment.
The permit is also expected to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship within Kenya.
The President has also announced the introduction of a new visa-free policy for nationals from several countries.
This will allow tourists to explore the country without being subject to visa requirements.
Additionally, a Transit and Long Connection Travelers Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) was announced.
The introduction of eTA means travelers with long layovers at Kenya’s Airport will be eligible to leave instead of waiting at terminals.
By the end of last year, Kenya welcomed more than 2 million visitors, thus generating Sh352 billion.
Plus, the government of Kenya expects to attract a total of 5 million visitors each year by 2027.
The country relies heavily on the tourism industry, which is the third-largest foreign exchange earner.
To further boost tourism, the government introduced streamlined operations to bring in investments across diverse hospitality sectors.
