Real Estate Lending – Specialist / Mortgage Underwriter
Description
To evaluate and underwrite all mortgage loan types offered by the client according to specific state and federal requirements to limit the risk exposure to the client’s mortgage portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Analyze loans to make a valid recommendation.
- Calculate income and/or VA SAR ability.
- Perform manual underwriting.
- Review system-detected red flags for denial (credit, income, liabilities, etc.) and manage a daily case load of 300-400, identifying potential clears to pass to higher-level underwriters.
- Review documentation against company, NCUA, USPAP, and all other relevant industry loan acceptance guidelines.
- Audit contracts related to real estate such as age restrictions, HOAs, etc.
- Collaborate closely with loan originator and processor to ensure all appropriate data is obtained.
- Collaborate with Mortgage leadership and mentor Mortgage Processors, Closers, and Loan Officers.
- Maintain current knowledge of all company mortgage products and guideline changes by company, investors, or government agencies that impact mortgage loan processing.
Qualifications
- At least 1 year of Mortgage Underwriting experience.
- Knowledgeable of the Mortgage Industry.
- Familiar with agency guidelines (Fannie, Freddie, VA).
- Ability to quickly adjust and make fast decisions.
- Comfortable with conditions, especially DU conditions.
- Ability to calculate income.
- Experience reviewing CBRs.Experience in a production-based environment.
- Familiarity with desktop underwriter/processing and conventional, FHA, VA mortgage experience (certifications preferred not required).

Compensation
Pay range: $22.02 – $39.93/hr, based on years of experience.

Shift (Time): 8:00am – 4:30pm (local time)
Full remote; overtime available when business need.
Job Type: Contract, full-time.
Location: Scottsdale, AZ (hybrid).
