Jeju Island, a popular tourist destination in South Korea, wants to attract remote workers with its own ‘Jeju-Style’ Digital Nomad Visa.
The program was crafted by the Jeju government in collaboration with the Jeju International Convention Center. It allows digital nomads working for overseas companies to stay longer than the standard 30-day visa-free period.
It´s perfect for those looking to work while enjoying the island’s natural beauty and culture.
This visa offers a ‘Jeju-style’ experience separate from South Korea’s existing digital nomad visa, launched earlier this year.
The government wants to boost economic growth on the island while attracting global digital talent.
Local authorities recently organized the “Jeju Workcation with Global Digital Nomads” event, to gather feedback from the global remote work community.
In this event, held from October 31 to November 7, participants worked from shared office spaces in the city while enjoying local experiences.
They later carried out a survey. It revealed that 100% of participants were interested in returning to Jeju.
Additionally, 77% expressed their hopes to stay for extended periods of more than three weeks after the program’s conclusion.
The survey’s positive responses led authorities in Jeju to consider implementing their own Visa.
Since 2002, Jeju has maintained its status as a visa-free destination for short-term tourists. However, with this new visa Korea is exploring more potential tourism opportunities.
The new visa requires applicants to obtain both their regular South Korean visa and the additional Jeju-style permit.
