FlexJobs Report: Remote or Hybrid Work Deemed Optimal for Mental Health by 96% of Individuals

FlexJobs’ 2023 Work Insights Survey, encompassing the responses of over 5,600 individuals, reveals that an overwhelming 96% of workers consider a remote or hybrid work arrangement as the most beneficial for their mental well-being. 

Among the participants, 49% expressed a preference for a hybrid workplace, slightly surpassing those who favored a fully remote setup (47%). Merely 4% of respondents believed that being present in a physical office full-time was conducive to their mental health. 

The survey findings highlighted reduced stress levels as the primary health advantage of remote work.

Sara Sutton, the Founder and CEO of FlexJobs, emphasized the significant impact of remote work on workers’ mental health, attributing it to factors such as diminished commuting stress, improved sleep, healthier eating habits, and reduced anxiety. 

The survey, conducted between May 3 and May 21, 2023, delved into professionals’ perspectives on vital workplace issues in the evolving job landscape. These topics included the influence of remote work on career advancement, mental well-being, and workplace collaboration, as well as aspects of pay transparency in job postings and overall career outlook.
