According to new data from the Central Statistics Office, families are on average 5.6 kilometres away from a remote work centre and 1.6 kilometres away from a daycare facility.
The CSO claims that its new “Distance to Remote Work Hubs and Childcare Services” survey reveals regional and county-level disparities in service accessibility.
It is a companion piece to the 2019 release “Measuring Distance to Everyday Services in Ireland,” which looked at how close or distant individuals in Ireland resided to basic everyday services including schools, hospitals, public transportation stops, post offices, and banks.
The smallest average distance to a remote work hub was found in Cork city (1.6km), Dublin city (2.1km), and Galway city (2.1km), while the longest was found in Donegal (8.9km), Cork county, and Meath (8.4km).

According to the CSO, 82 percent of residential homes in the state were fewer than 10 kilometres away from a distant labour centre.
According to the survey, 58 percent of residential residences in the state are fewer than 5 kilometres from a distant work centre. For the same distance in Donegal, this was 41%, but in Dublin city, it was 97 percent.
Meanwhile, the average distance between a daycare service and a residential home in the state was 1.6 kilometres.
The greatest average distances to a childcare service were found in Leitrim (3.2km), Roscommon (3km), and Mayo (2.9km), whereas the smallest distances were found in Dublin, Cork city, and Galway city.
The government has spent more than €100 million refurbishing defunct banks, Garda stations, and other abandoned buildings into remote working centres.
