Why can’t Windows Active Directory Servers ever get along?

Because they were born with Trust Issues…

Alright, leaving the Dad IT joke aside… Our client provides enterprise-class managed data center services, and they’re looking for a Sr. AD Systems Engineer for their team. They have around 70 datacenters servicing 29 different markets, and we can’t disclose their clients – but think about any major industry player from hyperscalers, banks, healthcare and social media platforms, and they’re likely in their CRM. The scale of their applications are enormous, so it’s safe to say it’s a very impactful project that you’ll have the chance to work on.

You will be managing and enhancing the core tool systems and processes. This will include Active Directory, patching, monitoring, logging, configuration management, document management, as well as specific projects. You’ll oversee the general health and maintenance of Active Directory, and you’ll own the architecture, implementation, support, maintenance, configuration, planning, upgrades, etc. Moreover, they’re looking for someone with experience in authentication services and servers. Their ideal candidate will be someone energetic who actively looks for ways of improving the systems instead of idly waiting for their next task. You will be the company’s reference point for Active Directory, so you’ll need to have confidence in your expertise to provide suggestions, debate solutions, and make decisions.

The list of responsibilities includes:

  • Spearhead the development of Active Directory architecture and integration strategies within the identity management frameworks
  • Thoroughly document both existing and proposed environments.
  • Take the lead on medium-sized projects.
  • Establish robust processes, procedures, and documentation for core processes interfacing with Active Directory.
  • Formulate and present Request for Change (RFC) proposals to the Change Advisory Board (CAB).
  • Provide comprehensive training and mentorship to internal IT personnel.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for resolving escalations 24/7/365, leveraging expertise in Active Directory to address critical issues promptly
  • Conduct risk management activities to mitigate system risks and prevent unintended outages.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to optimize systems in alignment with the evolving needs of the business, ensuring timely updates to management.
  • Utilize appropriate systems, tools, and techniques to measure performance effectively.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, with a one-week on-call duty every two months

What qualifications and skills are we looking for?

  • Excellent English skills
  • 10+ years of experience with Active Directory and server administration, including administration of group policy objects, LDAP, DNS, and Kerberos
  • Past participation in large-scale AD projects
  • 5+ years of experience with OKTA, or equivalent identity management platforms
  • Good understanding of SQL databases
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • 5+ years of working with patch management and monitoring solutions
  • Understanding of change management methodologies
  • Scripting experience with PowerShell
  • Past experience creating architecture-level documentation

Bonus points for:

  • Microsoft certifications
  • Background in datacenters
