Role Description

This position is a contract role for a virtual teacher with availability Monday-Friday from 8 am to 3 pm ET. As a virtual teacher at A+ Virtual Learning, the role includes planning and delivering engaging online live lessons to all students, as well as following and instructing exceptional learners to achieve the goals set forth in their IEP, and differentiating lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners.

What to Expect:

As a Virtual Classroom Teacher, you will facilitate instruction to students across various grade levels and with diverse learning needs, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), in an entirely online platform. You will be responsible for creating an inclusive, engaging, and adaptive learning environment that leverages technology to meet the educational goals of all students.

Instructional Delivery:

  • Develop and deliver interactive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards
  • Use virtual learning platforms to teach students in a synchronous (live) or asynchronous (self-paced) manner
  • Modify and adapt instruction to accommodate the learning needs of students with SEND
  • Provide one-on-one or small group sessions for students needing additional support

Student Engagement:

  • Foster a positive online learning environment conducive to academic and personal growth
  • Implement strategies for engaging students through virtual tools and resources
  • Track student participation and ensure all students are actively involved in the learning process

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Design and administer assessments to monitor student progress
  • Use data to refine teaching strategies and instructional materials
  • Provide constructive feedback to students and parents on academic performance

Classroom Management:

  • Maintain discipline and oversee the conduct of students within the virtual classroom
  • Set clear expectations for online behavior and netiquette

Technology Integration:

  • Utilize educational technology to enhance learning outcomes
  • Troubleshoot basic technology issues related to the virtual learning environment

Communication:

  • Maintain regular communication with all stakeholders to discuss student progress and concerns
  • Collaborate with other educators and specialists to support student learning

Professional Development:

  • Maintain a passion for learning and sharing expertise with others in a meaningful way
  • Flexible, malleable attitude when issues arise out of one’s control (e.g., tech issues, learner challenges, client preferences, last-minute changes, etc.)
  • Ability to influence others in an authentic way and contribute professional expertise to curriculum and instructional resources
  • Contributes professional expertise professional learning communities and maintains 12 hours of professional learning annually 
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay current with virtual teaching methodologies and SEND strategies
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and school programs as required
  • Experiences in creating engaging lesson plans tailored to individual learners
  • Experiences using virtual teaching platforms and tools to increase student engagement and enhance student outcomes
  • Technically proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and most importantly willing to learn

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Valid teaching certification for the grade level and subject area. Possess and maintain an active teaching certificate and/or required credentials (New York State certification preferred). Teachers from other states can apply; however, if hired, we may ask that you apply for New York State certification through reciprocity.
  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Education. Master’s degree preferred
  • Have at least 1-3 years of teaching experience
  • Ability to submit background check
  • Maintain a professional workspace with computer and high-speed internet (headset recommended.
  • Successfully complete initial onboarding training
  • Proficiency in using virtual learning platforms and technology
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skill

  • Strong understanding of curriculum and content-area standards
  • Capability to analyze student data and apply it to instructional planning
  • Excellent time management skills to facilitate online learning effectively

Work Environment:

  • Remote work from home or designated virtual teaching space
  • Standard school hours with additional time for planning, grading, and communication
  • May require flexible scheduling to accommodate students in different time zones
