WhatJobs (representing a company with mining operations) is seeking a Mining Engineer to join our corporate technical support team, based in San Diego, California. While our mining sites are located remotely, this role provides crucial engineering expertise, analysis, and planning support from our head office. The position involves optimizing mine planning, evaluating reserves, and supporting operational efficiency and safety initiatives through data analysis and technical consultation.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical engineering support to remote mining operations.
  • Analyze mine plans, production data, and geological information.
  • Assist in the design and optimization of mine layouts and sequences.
  • Conduct reserve estimations and economic evaluations of mining projects.
  • Develop and improve mining methods and procedures.
  • Utilize mining software for modeling, planning, and analysis.
  • Monitor operational performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with on-site engineers and management.
  • Assess and mitigate technical risks associated with mining operations.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and feasibility studies.
  • Support safety initiatives through engineering analysis and recommendations.
  • Review and optimize equipment utilization and productivity.
  • Stay updated on mining technologies and industry best practices.
  • Conduct occasional site visits to operations (travel required).
  • Assist in long-term strategic planning for mining assets.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mining engineering, including mine planning and operations support.
  • Experience with mining software (e.g., MineSight, Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac).
  • Strong understanding of mining methods (surface and/or underground).
  • Knowledge of geological principles and reserve estimation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex data and technical reports.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote support capacity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel to remote mining sites occasionally.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one is a plus.
  • Experience with economic analysis of mining projects is a plus.
