WhatJobs is seeking an experienced Mining Consultant to join our network of independent contractors, available to work remotely from the Fort Worth, Texas area. This is a contract position focused on providing expert advice and technical support on various mining projects globally. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mining operations, project evaluation, and technical studies.

As a Remote Mining Consultant for WhatJobs, you will be responsible for advising clients on feasibility studies, resource and reserve estimation, mine planning, operational optimization, and technical due diligence. While based remotely, you will collaborate with diverse teams and clients, requiring excellent communication and technical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert technical consulting on mining projects, including open pit and underground operations.
  • Conduct and review feasibility studies, preliminary economic assessments, and scoping studies.
  • Perform resource and reserve estimation and reporting in compliance with international standards (e.g., NI 43-101, JORC).
  • Develop and evaluate mine plans and production schedules.
  • Advise on operational efficiency improvements and cost reduction strategies.
  • Conduct technical due diligence for potential acquisitions or investments.
  • Perform risk assessments related to mining projects.
  • Analyze geological data and integrate it into mine planning.
  • Evaluate mining methods and equipment selection.
  • Review and interpret metallurgical test work results.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
  • Provide guidance on environmental and social impact assessments related to mining.
  • Assist clients with permitting and regulatory compliance.
  • Support corporate development activities related to mining.
  • Mentor less experienced professionals if applicable.
  • Utilize mining software (e.g., Surpac, Whittle, MinePlan).
  • Travel to site visits may be required occasionally depending on the project scope.
  • Develop strong client relationships.
  • Manage consulting project timelines and deliverables.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of technical work.
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards.
  • Provide insights on market trends impacting the mining sector.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in the mining industry, with a focus on technical roles.
  • Previous consulting experience is highly desirable.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional certification (e.g., P.Eng., CEng) is often required or preferred.
  • Expertise in resource/reserve estimation and reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in relevant mining software packages.
  • Strong understanding of various mining methods and operations.
  • Experience with technical report writing (e.g., NI 43-101 reports).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage project schedules.
  • Proven ability to provide high-quality technical advice.
  • Experience across different commodities is a plus.
  • Ability to travel internationally if required (infrequent).
  • Strong ethical conduct and professional integrity.
  • Experience with financial modeling related to mining projects is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations in mining.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams.
